TRAFFIC IN NAIROBI

Turning lemons to lemonade… if you have ever been held in traffic in Nairobi on a rainy day, then count yourself as a person who is slowly perfecting the art of making lemonade (pun intended). One wonders what happens to the roads when it rains because cars literally stop but, I digress.
When held in painfully slow traffic, these are some of the things you can do. Look out for new billboards. They are always interesting and catchy and offer something different for the eye to see. In case your usual route lacks new billboards, well, re-read the old ones. Go ahead and check out that chic on the billboard or the guy with a perfect smile. See that picture perfect family and let your mind wander.

Every Nairobian seems to own vehicle going by the rate at which traffic builds up. Look out for new models, admire them and envy their drivers in equal measure especially if it’s a German model and you are a Japanese die hard. Have you ever noticed how passengers eye each other in a jam, I bet you my next salary most of these cannot maintain eye contact when not separated by car windows and two lanes.
Speaking to the person seated next to you, if you use public means of transport, would be nice too. You could end up getting your next big business deal or life partner, who knows? However, do this with utmost caution, he could be a con artist or just very uninterested in speaking with you.
Think, imagine, plan and remember. In the privacy of your own thoughts there is no limitation to how much you can think about. If it’s nice and creative, you actualize it.
In the meantime, don’t just get bored and angry and cranky because of traffic. Do something nice that will get your mind away from the little distance you have covered since half an hour ago. If you are on the wheel, keep your eyes on the road or in this case, on the tail lights of the car in front.
